Alfonso Thomas returns to Somerset's team for the Friends Provident Trophy derby clash with Gloucestershire at Bristol tomorrow.

The Kolpak signing impressed with his bowling at the death against Glamorgan last Sunday and in the second XI match with Durham, which followed.

Steffan Jones also comes back after missing the LV County Championship game against Lancashire and the two seamers could be used in tandem at the end of Gloucestershire's innings.

Neil Edwards and Michael Munday drop out from the four-day side, while Wes Durston is added to form a squad of 12.

Both teams have made an encouraging start in the Friends Provident so tomorrow's game could have a major bearing on the outcome of the South West group.

Director of Cricket Brian Rose told somersetcountycc.co.uk: "We stll have to play Gloucestershire and Worcestershire at Taunton so a win at Bristol would leave us very well placed.

"It's never an easy place to go early season and given the right conditions Jon Lewis can be a very effective bowler. Steve Kirby always gives it everything so we need to respect Gloucestershire's attack.

"The Friends Provident is a competition we feel we have a genuine chance of winning. We underperformed in one-day cricket early last season and don't want to make that mistake again."
