CHARL HOPING TO FACE BEARS
Charl Willoughby will be pressing strongly for a recall to Somerset's team for the Twenty20 Cup group match against Warwickshire at Taunton on Wednesday (5.40pm start).
The experienced left-arm seamer was omitted from the side for the opening game in the competition against Glamorgan on Monday because the pitch at Cardiff looked more likely to favour spin.
That decision was fully vindicated as young leg-spinner MaxWaller took three wickets in a thilling one-run victory. The Sabres will choose from the same 13 against the Bears after assessing conditions at the County Ground.
Coach Andy Hurry told somersetcountycc.co.uk: "It's always nice when a tough selection decision pays off and Max did a great job for us against Glamorgan.
"To be honest, they threw the game away, but we stuck to our task when all looked lost and from that point of view deserved our win. We know Charl's experience will benefit us in other matches.
"We didn't bat well at Cardiff, but conditions made it very difficult to score runs. I am not one to make excuses for the players, but it was a very poor pitch for a one-day game.
"The ball stuck to the wicket and made it virtually impossible to drive, except in the air. Zander de Bruyn played an exceptional innings and I don't think we need to worry too much about the others because the circumstances are unlikely to be repeated.
"We now have the chance to start the competition with back-to-back wins and will be looking to capitalise on home advantage."
