Somerset's yong batsman Jos Buttler, who made an impressive championship debut in the penultimate match of the 2009 season against Lancashire, has just returned to Taunton after being out in New Zealand playing for England in the Under 19 World Cup.

The 19 year old said: "Playing out in New Zealand against the best players in my age group in the world was really quite tough but very good experience for me."

Buttler who until he completed his 'A' Levels last summer attended King's College in Taunton, where he worked with former Somerset favourite Dennis Breakwell went on: "As a whole the tournament was brilliant to be involved with and although it was disappointing in the end from England's point of view it was good for me to face up to the challenge."

"I performed pretty well and got a couple of good scores in the warm up games but didn't get too many chances out in the middle in the competition. In the first two group games I didn't bat and missed the India game because of a tooth problem, but I played against the West Indies and then got 70 odd against India."

Talking about the last few months which have been hectic to say the least he said: "I have had a pretty busy winter because after being out at the IPL with Somerset I went straight off to Bangladesh with the England Under 19s. Then after Christmas I trained again with the Under 19s before flying out to New Zealand on New Years Day so I have been on the go non-stop for several months."

"I am going to have a week off to catch up with my family and then look forward to getting back into training with the Somerset team."

Buttler went on: "I have got a pretty important 10 weeks coming up and the start of the new season will come around pretty fast. I want to try to progress my game to the next level and really challenge myself to have a really good season in 2010."

Looking ahead to the new season the young batsman said: "There will definitely be pressure on for places in the team this coming season with new players coming in but its an exciting time to be at Somerset especially with Marcus Trescothick taking over as captain."

He added: "It will be exciting for me and I have got to put in some really strong performances at the start of the year in the second team and hopefully press my case for a first team chance."
